Meet Rocky
Rocky is a sweet dog with a giant heart. He was “rescued” through adoption at a local Humane Society Shelter. While the details of his previous life are unknown, the evidence of the abuse he suffered are clearly seen in the many scars Rocky bears on his body. In addition to the scars, Rocky has broken teeth and a persistent limp that will show up if plays too hard with his friends.
In spite of the obvious mistreatment Rocky endured in his early life, he is one of the most loving and gentle dogs a person could ever hope to meet. Giving hugs and snuggling with his people are Rocky’s favorite activities. He takes a little time to warm up when meeting someone new, and his apprehension causes embarrassing moments, as shown in this story.
When he came to his forever home with Phillip and Kendra Young, Rocky immediately bonded with Max and Mina, brother and sister Boxer/Great Dane mixes, who were also rescued from the same shelter. While there is plenty of space for all, it is not uncommon to see all three dogs snuggling together on the same bed or in the same kennel.
Rocky’s persistent and sweet spirit, along with some unique personality traits are the inspiration for this story. Rescuing animals is a worthwhile cause and the lives changed are always the better for the effort.

Collaboration is not a new concept for Phillip Young and Lanie Farr. They have worked together serving children and the community in a variety of capacities over the last 20 years. The dream of writing books together arose over 15 years ago and has resulted in their first collaboration, Rocky the Flying Dog! Phillip and Lanie both love children, dogs, and the great Arizona outdoors. They both live with their families in Mesa, Arizona.
